ASIA-CHURCH: EXPLORING THE FABC VISION James Kroeger, MM
Th 2:00 – 5:00 pm

In the Vatican II era, the most influential organization among the local churches of Asia has been the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC), the body which emerged from the historic Asian visit of Pope Paul VI in 1970. This course traces the dynamic growth of the “consciousness” of the Churches of Asia in the past three decades; it attempts to present an “ecclesiology of the Asian churches.” Various thematic elements form the course content: FABC history and structure; “reception” of Vatican II in Asia; theological approaches; local church; interreligious dialogue; inculturation; pastoral praxis; mission; laity; spirituality; integral evangelization. Finally, the discussion will include the highlights of FABC IX Plenary Assembly (August 2009: Manila)
