INTRODUCTION TO THE THOUGHT
OF BERNARD LONERGAN
Walter Ysaac, SJ
F 2:00 - 4:40 pm
The first part of the course is a study of Lonergan’s basic insight and method as found in his two great books, Insight and Method, and in his two articles in prayer, “Existenz and Aggiornamento” and ‘The Meditation of Christ in Prayer.”
The second part is a study of instances of how the thought of Lonergan has been – and can be fruitfully used to best bring out and enhance what is authentic in the writings of various great thinkers, as well as what is good in various great forms of prayer, especially in our own various great traditional Christian prayers like St. Ignatius’ “Triple Colloquy” in his Spiritual Exercises, St. Francis de Sales’ “Prayer of the Heart,” and the popular ‘Prayer for Peace” attributed to St. Francis of Assissi, etc.
