THE SPIRITUALITY OF SOLITUDE
AND THE DESERT EXPERIENCE

Eduardo Africa, OSB

W 7:30 - 10:00 am

This course will deal with the spirituality of solitude and the desert experience. It will discuss the earliest forms and models of a fully committed following of Christ as found in the earliest tradition of Christian practice. Solitude is not isolation or loneliness. True solitude leads to deeper communion with God, with oneself and with others. In the same way, true communion always involves solitude. Solitude teaches one how to live apart from others, how to live without compulsively needing them to give or make one feel loved. One learns how to live with oneself. Only then is one capable of giving love, a sacrificial love that accepts or needs nothing in return.

Note: The first session will take place on December 2.
