A READING OF THE CONFESSIONS
OF
SAINT AUGUSTINE (3 units)
Emmanuel Hirschauer, STD
T 2:00 – 5:00 pm

This course offers the opportunity of a singular adventure: reading, from cover to cover, one of the greatest masterpieces of Western literature, the Confessions of St. Augustine. A narrative of conversion, the Confessions are rich of many harmonics: spiritual, philosophical, theological, historical, literary, rhetorical and psychological. Paying attention to these different harmonics – according to what touches each reader – grows into an experience of the fruitfulness of ecclesial reading. Listening to the man at prayer of the Confessions enables to journey towards the "supremely good Father, beauty of all things beautiful" (Conf. III, vi). We will follow the English translation of Henry Chadwick.

NB: The first session will take place on Tuesday November 17.
